I’m sure you have heard of it by now. Yesterday, S-Town, from Serial and This American Life, was released. All seven hour long episodes. Today, I’m five episodes in and expect to listen to the rest by the end of the day.
In case you haven’t heard about S-Town yet, here is the summary from their website (which you should check out. It’s beautiful): “John despises his Alabama town and decides to do something about it. He asks a reporter to investigate the son of a wealthy family who’s allegedly been bragging that he got away with murder. But then someone else ends up dead, sparking a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure, and an unearthing of the mysteries of one man’s life.”
I can’t say much without spoiling the podcast, but here is what I can say. The podcast is great journalism. Host Brian Reed keeps you engaged and binging on the episodes. The story keeps have twists and turns that are unexpected. The characters in the podcast are real (since it is journalism after all) and are complex. Each episode keeps you wanting to hear more about their lives.
Check out S-Town and see what all of the buzz is about.
